ILOILO CITY—Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon has slammed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for not acting earlier on the disqualification cases against presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“It will be too late. That’s the truth,” said Drilon in reference to the Sunday announcement of Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan that promulgation for the fourth disqualification case will be made on Tuesday, May 10.
“I will repeat: By this time, the Comelec will have a ready excuse,” said the Ilonggo senator after casting his vote on Monday, May 9, at Baluarte Elementary School in Iloilo City.
“Indi na siya ma disqualify. Nag eleksyon na (Marcos cannot be disqualified. The election has already taken place),” emphasized Drilon.
“If Marcos will win, then they might decide in his favor as the people had already spoken. If Marcos will lose to Robredo, then it is already academic,” Drilon added.
Pangarungan announced on Sunday, May 8, that only the fourth case has not been promulgated while the ruling on the three consolidated disqualification cases have already been signed.
Drilon was wearing pink long-sleeves when he voted. He has openly endorsed Robredo for the presidency.
A long-time member of the Liberal Party (LP), Drilon will retire from politics when his term ends on June 30.
Drilon has served as labor secretary, justice secretary and executive secretary during the presidency of Cory Aquino.
