As Filipino voters troop to polling precincts on Monday, May 9, more than half a million Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) volunteers will take their posts as poll watchers and as assistance staff around the country.

PPCRV national chairperson Myla Villanueva said, majority of the volunteers will serve as voter’s assistance desk staff as well as poll watchers to help ensure order in the polling precincts.

“It is important for us to be present in the precincts to be witnesses of the truth, whatever that may be. Let us be there to be witnesses of truth,” Villanueva said in a Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines News post.

Villanueva said there will also be volunteers to be assigned at the PPCRV Command Center where they will receive through their transparency server the electronic results of the elections for the unofficial parallel count at the University of Santo. Tomas in Manila from May 9 to 20.

The volunteers, she said, will serve as encoders, manpower for their call center, ushers and other related concerns to help ensure order.

“As the accredited citizens arm of the Commission on Elections, one of PPCRV’s tasks is to ensure that the data in the hard copy matches those in the electronic election return,” the CBCP said.
