MMDA starts deploying 90% of its personnel for traffic-related poll duties
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started deploying its personnel for election duties in the metropolis.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said the deployment started on Sunday, May 8, and the target is to tap 90 percent of their personnel to man traffic within the vicinity of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City where the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) will be canvassing the votes for the national elections.
"Traffic congestion in the area is expected as it will coincide with some graduation rites at PICC Plenary Hall. Hence, we will deploy personnel to ensure the smooth flow of traffic," Artes said.
“The MMDA is in close coordination with the Commission on Elections, Southern Police District, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the local government unit of Pasay City for other administrative and operational activities in the area,” he added.
Artes said they have already mapped out traffic decongestion plan and this will be implemented starting Sunday until the canvassing of votes is done.
"Traffic road signages will be installed by the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center on the northbound portions of Macapagal Boulevard and Diokno Boulevard to guide the motorists," he said.
Artes likewise appealed to motorists to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.
