Education groups endorse Leni-Kiko, ‘pro-education’ senatoriables

A coalition of education groups once again reiterated its support for the candidacies of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo and her running mate vice presidential bet Senator Kiko Pangilinan.

“The coalition includes Angat Buhay Edukasyon (ABE), Teachers for Leni and Kiko, and the 180,000-member strong Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT),” the coalition said in a press statement on Friday, May 6.

Dubbed as the “Educators’ Ballot,” the coalition also identified senatoriables Teddy Baguilat, Neri Colmenares, Leila de Lima, Chel Diokno, Dick Gordon, Risa Hontiveros, Elmer Labog, Alex Lacson, Sonny Matula, and Sonny Trillanes as the “most responsive” for education concerns.

“The endorsed candidates were chosen based on the similarities of their platforms with the coalition’s education covenant,” said ABE lead convenor and Ateneo de Manila University Associate Professor Gary Devilles.

The coalition’s education covenant includes equitable access to education, teacher welfare, post-pandemic education recovery, responsive curriculum, and inclusive education.

Meanwhile, they also expressed support for the ACT Teachers partylist, adding that it is the “only” teachers partylist group that supports the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem for the May 2022 polls.
