“I am one hundred percent in support of my presidential candidate. I am not a member of her political party. She did not choose me - I chose her,” Treñas said in a statement released Thursday, May 5.

“I did not go to any presidential candidate to ask for funds as reported in some fake news,” added Treñas, who is running for re-election.

Treñas did not name the presidential candidate that he allegedly is supporting.

He came up with a public statement after a photo of a sample ballot allegedly showing the names of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for president and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for vice president was being circulated online.

Speculations that Treñas was allegedly supporting the BBM UniTeam spread because the sample ballot used indicated the Uswang party-list, which Treñas founded.

The sample ballot also contained the names of Treñas’ running mate Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and Congressoman Julienne “Jam-jam” Baronda, who are both running for reelection.

Also in the sample ballot were incumbent Iloilo City Councilors Rommel Duron, Ely Estante, Rudolph Ganzon, Jojo Javellana, Frances Parcon, and Allan Zaldivar as well as Dr. Urminico Baronda Jr., Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna, Atty. Rex Sarabia, Barangay Capt. Eric David, Johnny Young, and Miguel Treñas.
