ILIGAN CITY -- The Commission on Elections on Wednesday spearheaded the simultaneous send-off ceremony of security personnel who are mandated to carry out election duties on Monday.

A total of 681 security personnel from the Iligan City Police Office, 53 from Philippine Coast Guard and about 45 personnel from the military's 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion were deployed to their respective areas of responsibility in Iligan City for the May 9 national and local elections.
Also deployed in the city to help ensure the peaceful conduct of the election were units from the 55th Infantry Battalion and 55th Engineer Brigade.
City Election Officer Atty. Joel Dexter C. Nagtalon emphasized that cooperation and coordination should now be our battle cry as he highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies as ‘it divides the effort and multiplies the effect.’
Nagtalon said that as election workers, the focus should be on ‘our roles and responsibilities.’
“Let us maintain political neutrality and non-partisanship,” said Nagtalon while citing the dedication of all the security forces in the election.
"As far as the Iligan City Police Office is concerned, I assure you that there will be sufficient PNP personnel that will be deployed in polling precincts to ensure safety and enforce law and order," said City Director Police Colonel Dominador Estrada during the send-off ceremony on Wednesday at ICPO Parade Ground, Camp Tomas L. Cabili in Barangay Tipanoy here.
Estrada reminded all security forces to not underestimate the situation of the upcoming May 9 elections. He told them to be attentive and to always be alert.
Meanwhile, 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Marlon Famoso said the focus of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during elections is to ensure security and safety for the facilitators, voters, as well as the election paraphernalia.
Thus, he assured that AFP is always at their service in addressing any commotions that could happen during the election day.
Coast Guard Station Commander of Lanao del Norte, Lieutenant Atanasio Barba guaranteed that the Philippine Coast Guard personnel are ready as well to provide security during the election day. Along with the personnel are the land and floating assets lent to transport Comelec equipment whenever necessary.
Iligan City has 44 barangays with a total registered voters based on a posted computerized voters lists (pcvl) of more than 182,000.
