Aspiring vice president Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan is ready to accept any task related to agriculture if running mate Vice President Leni Robredo wins the presidency.
Responding to a query from the media in Cagayan De Oro on Wednesday, May 4, if he will lead the Department of Agriculture if Robredo wins, Pangilinan said it would still be up to Robredo. But he will be ready to accept whatever agency it would be.
"That's really up to President Leni 'pag pangulo na siya (if she becomes the President), with God's grace with the support of the people, but whatever agency that has deal with agriculture we are ready to accept but that's really up to her," Pangilinan said.
Pangilinan is an advocate for the agriculture and fisheries sectors and is pushing for national food security in a bid to end hunger. His campaign slogan revolves around these agendas— "Hello pagkain, goodbye gutom."
"Ayokong pangunahan ang ating (I don't want to preempt the decision of our) VP, although she has said that one of the major key reasons why she asked me to be her vice president was precisely because of my agriculture and fisheries advocacy dahil nga sila ang kapos, sila ang nasa laylayan, so sila ang dapat na matulungan (because they are the ones who need help)," the senator said.
In her previous interviews, Robredo said that, if elected, she will choose Cabinet members who are expert and respected in their fields and are good managers.
Pangilinan served as the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization under the presidency of former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
