Over 37k schools to be used as polling centers on May 9 --- DepEd


The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, May 4, said that more than 37,000 schools nationwide will be used as polling precincts for the May 9 national and local elections.

“So sa ngayon, briefly, ang mga schools, 37,219 schools ang gagamitin bilang polling centers. Tapos ang precincts, 106,439 – napakarami ‘no. Marami kasi tayong mga botante (So far, briefly, 37,219 schools will be used as polling centers. Then for the precincts, 106,439 - there are so many because we also have a lot of voters),” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

Briones added that there are 756,083 poll workers from various institutions. Of this number, the majority, or 647,812 are personnel of the DepEd.

“Nagiging tradisyon na kasi ang pag-trust sa Department of Education, sa ating mga teachers, to ensure na malinis at tama, accurate ang pagbilang ng mga boto (It has become a tradition to trust the Department of Education, our teachers, to ensure that the counting of votes is clean and correct),” Briones said.

Briones said that of the DepEd participating personnel, 319,000 will sit as members of the electoral board while 200,000 DepEd personnel and supervisory officials will also be tapped.

“Napaka-intensive ang involvement ng Department of Education sa halalan na ito (The involvement of the Department of Education in this election was very intensive),” Briones added.
