Monsignor Pablo Legaspi of the Diocese of Malolos called on the faithful to follow the example of San Roque (Saint Roch) who was known for his love and compassion for others.

San Roque is venerated as the patron saint against communicable diseases, epidemic, and the plague.

“We are familiar with the trials encountered by San Roque that despite his illness that he acquired while tending to the needs of the sick, God took care of him. According to stories, a dog would bring him bread to eat. He exhibited such a strong faith that converted many back to the faith,” Monsignor Legaspi said over Radio Veritas.

The Church leader led the mass to celebrate the feast of the San Roque Parish in Longos, Pulilan, Bulacan.

Monsignor Legaspi stressed the importance of showing compassion and concern for others just like San Roque who offered his life without hesitation while taking care of the sick.

For her part, Sister Aurora Seguis, Hermana Mayor of the celebration said, the faithful’s devotion to San Roque protected them against the threat of the coronavirus and other health problems.
