PNP washes hands on Tarlac police station's poster 'red-tagging' partylist solon

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has denied any involvement in a poster displayed in front of a police station in Tarlac which allegedly links a party-list representative to the Communist Party of the Philippines- New People's Army (CPP-NPA).

In a statement, PNP chief information officer Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus explained that the local police office of Capas town has no control over materials displayed in the area since the police station is located inside the compound owned by the local government unit.

"The PNP would like to put a light into this matter. The premise is that the Police Station is located inside the Capas LGU compound that’s making it difficult to monitor the movement of people. The police has no control on those who are responsible on mounting the said tarpaulin especially that it was placed on the outer portion of the gated police station," said Alba.

Over the weekend, Bayan Muna party-list Representative Carlos Zarate released a statement condemning the red-tagging of the local police.

Red-tagging has been a serious concern in the country since some groups alleged that those who are red-tagged are sometimes being harassed, and in worse cases, would end up dead.

Alba said the conduct investigation into the matter.

"The Philippine National Police strongly denies any hand on the random red-tagging of individuals and/or groups," said Alba.

“The PNP vows to investigate the matter as it attempts to tarnish the reputation of the police organization,” he added.

For his part, PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said the PNP does not allow its personnel to use PNP facilities for political or social statements or towards disrespecting anyone.

“Rest assured, our main goal is to promote peace and order to the communities we serve,” Carlos said.
