CJ Gesmundo to Muslim community: 'Warm wishes' on Eid'l Fitr celebration

Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo extended the judiciary’s “warm, wishes” to the Muslim community in the celebration of Eid’l Fitr today, May 3.
In his message released by the Supreme Court’s public information office, Gesmundo said: “May this special occasion bring blessings of peace and forgiveness to everyone. As we pray for everyone’s good health and well-being, it is my hope that we continue to be compassionate to others.”
Eid’l Fitr’s celebration marks the conclusion of a month-long fasting and sacrifice in the holy month of Ramadan, a period of reflection and faithfulness.
“As a testament to Allah’s mercy and kindness, this period brings a renewed sense of spirituality and purpose for our Muslim brothers and sisters,” Gesmundo said.
He noted that “while the on-going pandemic has disrupted our daily lives in every aspect, bringing about many challenges and maybe even
testing our faith, it has enabled us to contemplate on what is truly important -- our relationship with God and with one another.”
The government pays tribute and honors its Muslim citizens by declaring the Eid’l Fitr celebration a holiday.
The country has Shari’ah courts that settle legal conflicts between Muslim Filipinos in the sphere of customary and personal laws.
The Muslim courts “handle cases or complaints such as divorce, property or real estate disputes, child support, dowry questions, determination of degrees of affinity or consanguinity, determination of paternity and filiation, and similar cases.”
