RSG takes down Omega, reigns supreme in MPL PH Season 9

RSG Philippines reigned supreme in the MPL Philippines Season 9 after taking down last year's MSC king Omega Esports, 4-1, in the best-of-seven Grand Finals at the SMX Convention Center in the wee hours on Monday, May 2.

It was a hard-earned win for RSG as it took a team-fight oriented OMG head on, leaving hundreds of fans inside the venue at the edge of their seats in the five-game spectacle. WIth the win, RSG also bagged the $35,000 top prize.

RSG seemed to be always one step ahead of Omega in Game 1 with Emann securing a pair of triple kills - first on the six-minute turtle fight and the second during a clash for the first Lord.

Raizen completed the Lord steal to stall the game for Omega but that hardly bothered RSG as it prevailed in the next Lord dance with Demonkite securing the objective kill before the Raiders went for the Omega heroes to score a wipeout and a 22-8 Game 1 win.

In Game 2, OMG focused on its objective-centered game with Raizen on the Barats dictating the tempo.

It was a clean execution for OMG as it took down towers and avoided unnecessary clashes, evident in the record lowest scoring game so far this season with just a 2-0 tally in just a little over 13 minutes of play.

RSG's macro play was in full display in Game 3 as it secured a nine-minute Lord and took down all of Omega's outer turrets with only 11 minutes past the game clock.

A clash for the game's third Lord was the difference as Nathzz on the Dyrroth secured a double kill in Omega's backline. That opened a window for RSG to score another wipeout and retake the series lead with a 15-7 win.

Riding the momentum of the Game 3 win, Nathzz on the Esmeralda and Light on the Tank Chou provided sustain and the setup to create space for its damage dealers to freely hit during team fights.

Emann on the Clint and Aqua on the Cecilion dished out the damage from distance, overwhelming Omega en route to a 13-8 win and a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Omega tried to regain foothold in Game 5 behind the heroics of Raizen who secured two clutch Lord steals to drag the fight to the late game.

Emann on the Wanwan though took over in the clash for the fourth Lord completing a triple kill to regain the lead.

Omega held its footing in the next sequences but RSG forced its way to the enemy base to close out the series.
