UniTeam eyes triple 'miting de avance' ahead of May 9 polls

The UniTeam tandem of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is planning to hold not one, not two, but three "miting de avances" during the final week of the campaign period.

Reports reaching the Manila Bulletin bared that the three pre-election gatherings would be held in each of the country's major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Visayas miting de avance ("advance meeting") will be held in Iloilo on Tuesday, May 3. This will be followed by the Mindanao miting de avance in Davao City on Thursday, May 5. Davao is the home city of Mayor Duterte.

Finally, on Saturday, May 7, the UniTeam will hold its third and final miting de avance in a location to be determined in the National Capital Region (NCR) in Metro Manila.

Conspicuously missing in the schedule is a miting de avance in the Ilocos region, where Marcos hails from. At any rate, the report said the schedule is still subject to change even at the last minute.

A miting de avance is considered the "go-home show" of the campaign period before the national and local elections, which in this case will be held on Monday, May 9.

There would be no campaigning allowed on Sunday, May 8, the eve of the elections.

The triple miting de avance can be considered a major flex over the UniTeam's rival tandems, since most of them only planned one such event ahead of the polls.

Marcos and Duterte have consistently led presidential and vice presidential surveys, respectively.
