Cebu faces Manila Chooks in Super Quest semis

Cebu and Manila arrange a semifinal affair after posting top two finishes in their respective pools of the Chooks-to-Go FIBA 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest Saturday, April 30 at Ayala Malls Solenad Activity Center in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Mac Tallo, Mike Nzeusseu, Brandon Ramirez and Zach Huang combined as Cebu won all three matches to top Pool B while Chico Lanete, Mark Yee, Henri Iloka and Dennis Santos gave Manila a 2-1 record and second place in Pool A.

Tallo, Nzeusseu, Ramirez and Huang defeated Indonesia’s Tangerang, 21-12, edged out Mongolia’s Sansar, 14-12, before rolling past fellow Filipino squad Butuan, 21-10.

Lanete, Yee, Iloka and Santos lost to Melbourne Hoop City, 15-13, but bounced back to defeat Mongolia’s Zaisan, 21-17, and Japan’s Tokyo Dime, 21-16.

The Cebu-Manila clash is being played as of posting time, the winner advancing to the championship game against either Sansar or Zaisan in an all-Mongolian affair.

The finalists will also secure spots to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Manila Masters.

Zaisan topped Pool A after gaining the superior quotient due to a three-way tie at 2-1 with Manila and Melbourne.

Sansar advanced into the semis as the second-ranked team in Pool B after eliminating Tangerang, 15-12.

Butuan, the other Philippine team in the one-day event, was eliminated after going 1-2 in Pool B.

Joshua Webb, Jon Gabriel, Alvin Baetiong and Ron Dennison lost, 21-8, to Sansar but bounced back by edging out the ASEAN Basketball League 3x3 International Champions Cup winner Tangerang, 21-20.

But Butuan had no answers for Cebu and saw an early end to its campaign.
