Valenzuela LGU distributes financial aid to Malinta fire victims


The Valenzuela City government distributed on Tuesday, April 26, financial assistance to 1,069 families who were affected by the fire incident in Dulong Tangke, Malinta last April 9.

Mayor Rex Gatchalian said the families who lost their homes were given P15,000 each while those whose houses were partially damaged got P10,000 each.

The mayor said they are already talking to the owner of the burned residential area to ensure that no one will take advantage of the incident.

The city government also provided the affected families food packs which includes canned goods and rice, and school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, lunch box, tumblers, and worktexts).

Gatchalian said that by Friday, the three schools - Malinta National High School, Malinta Junior High School, and Malinta Elementary School - which serve as evacuations centers will be closed as it will be used as voting precincts for the upcoming May 9 elections.

He said some of the residents are ready to go back to their homes since they can build temporary shelters while others have their own provisions on where they are going to stay.

He also said that they are going to talk to the victims to discuss their next steps for Dulong Tangke after the elections.

The local government said that a total of 1,153 families were affected by the fire incident.

Earlier, the victims also received cash assistance from the office of Rep. Wes Gatchalian and Senator Bong Go.
