Scottie Thompson wrapped up a conference to remember with another PBA championship but also the hands down choice as the Honda-PBA Press Corps Finals Most Valuable Player.

Members of the media covering the PBA beat unanimously voted for Thompson as the best player of the Governors’ Cup Finals which ended with the Gin Kings completing a 103-92 win over the Meralco Bolts to take the series in six games.

Thompson averaged 17.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists for his second career Finals MVP plum, the other coming in the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup.

He was the overwhelming favorite during the series with his all-around play, even if Christian Standhardinger was solid on both ends and LA Tenorio saving his best for last with 30-point performance in the clincher.

Ginebra fans who were among the 20,224 who filled the Mall of Asia Arena certainly agreed, even making loud “MVP” chants during the third with Thompson at the foul line.

In hitting two birds with one stone after Game 6, plus a Best Player of the Conference award, Thompson has put himself in consideration to bag the coveted Most Valuable Player.

“Sobrang blessed ako pag nagkataon,” Thompson said of the possibility. “Pero hayaan ko na yung tadhana na magbigay sa akin nun, si Lord. So kung mangyari, kung hindi, okay lang.”

What matters for Thompson now is to help Ginebra win as many championships as he can.

“Ang main goal is to win another championship. Sarap manalo ng championship, more than the award. Nakakaadik.”
