Joint UniTeam-PDP-Laban rallies eyed; President Duterte might attend

BIÑAN, Laguna--President Duterte may yet appear at a UniTeam rally near you.

Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Cusi wing Secretary-General Melvin Matibag announced here Thursday night, April 21 that the ruling party might soon have joint campaign rallies with the UniTeam of presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio

Matibag, who was recently appointed as acting Cabinet Secretary, made this revelation in an ambush interview after attending the UniTeam grand rally at the Biñan Football Field here. Marcos and Mayor Duterte both attended the rally.

President Duterte has consistently refused to personaly endorse a candidate for the Palace race on May 9, but Matibag said there's "a chance" that the former might attend such joint rallies.

"Sana, may tiyansa, may tiyansa (Hopefully, there's a chance, there's a chance)," he said.

"Nag-meeting sila...ah kasama ko si Secretary Cusi as president of the party na magkakaron ng mga rally ang PDP-Laban kung sakaling imbitado na si BBM (Bongbong Marcos) at si Mayor Inday Sara (They held a meeting... I was with Secretary Cusi as president of the party and there will be rallies held by PDP-Laban in the event that BBM and Mayor Inday Sara get invited)," Matibag said.

"Balak namin una sa Bulacan tapos Parañaque then baka sakali isa pa dito sa Laguna, ah Nueva Ecija and were hoping na makasama din namin si Presidente (We're planning to hold rallies in Bulacan, then Parañaque, then maybe one more here in Laguna, and Nueva Ecija, and we are hoping that the President could join us)," he added.

According to Matibag, the UniTeam and PDP-Laban are on good terms. "Oo maganda yung pag-uusap namin. Ang UniTeam at PDP-Laban maganda ang pag-uusap, may mga plano talaga (Yes we had a good discussion. The UniTeam and PDP-Laban have had good discussions, there really are plans).

"We're planning a big rally in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and in Parañaque na ang mag-iisponsor PDP-Laban, invited ang UniTeam (PDP-Laban will sponsor these and the UniTeam is invited)," the Palace official said.

PDP-Laban Cusi wing,, as a political party, has already endorsed the candidacies of Marcos and Mayor Duterte.

Asked why the elder Duterte hasn't endorsed anybody yet for president, Matibag gave this explanation: "We have to realize na si Presidente (that the President) is wearing two hats no pagdating dito (when it comes to this), he's wearing the hat of a President of the nation and also the chairman of the party ng PDP-Laban, so may (there's a) balancing ng (of) interest, pero kita naman natin ang Presidente (but we can see that the President) is very supportive of his party, PDP-laban."
