Song Joong-ki, Kim Ji-won out of 'Arthdal Chronicles' 2; Lee Joon-gi offered role


Korean stars Song Joong-ki and Kim Ji-won will not reprise their roles in the period fantasy drama “Arthdal Chronicles” season 2.

According to the production staff of “Arthdal Chronicles,” Song Joong-ki, who starred in "Vincenzo," and Kim Ji-won of "Descendants of the Sun" have declined to star in the second season of the drama due to scheduling conflicts.

“Arthdal Chronicles” aired on tvN in 2019 and told the stories of heroes of different races in the ancient land of Arth.

Song Joong-ki played the roles of Eun-seom and Saya, while Kim Ji-won played the role of Tan-ya.

The roles for season 2 have been offered to actor Lee Joon-gi and actress Shin Se-kyung.

Production company Studio Dragon told Korean media that “After in-depth discussions with the writer and production team, we proposed the role of Eun-seom in season 2 of ‘Arthdal ​​Chronicles’ to Lee Joon-gi. It is currently under review.”

Namoo Actors, Lee Joon-gi’s agency, said “Arthdal Chronicles” is one of the works being reviewed. Shin Se-kyung's agency also said the role is being reviewed.

Actor Jang Dong-gun played the role of Ta-gon in season 1.

The casting for “Arthdal ​​Chronicles” season 2 is expected to be finished this year. The filming will also begin this year.

The filming for season 2 was supposed to start in the second half of 2020 but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The second season is expected to air in 2023.
