SAN PEDRO, Laguna--Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said she will leave it up to "Apo BBM" as to whether or not she would handle a Cabinet position during her potential tenure as vice president.
Duterte is the running mate of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Bongbong Marcos. Both have been consistent survey frontrunners ahead of the May 9 polls.
The lady mayor attended a caucus with local leaders and residents JAM Compound here on Thursday afternoon, April 21, afterwhich she gave an ambush interview to reporters.
Asked what agency in government she would prefer to handle as vice president, Duterte said: "Hindi pa namin pinag-iisipan yan, nakatutok pa kami sa election day and of course sa canvassing and proclamation (We haven't talked about that yet, we are focused on election day and of course on canvassing and proclamation)."
It is tradition for the president to assign or offer a Cabinet position to his or her vice president.
Pressed for an answer, Duterte eventually said, "Iiwan ko po yan (I will leave it to him) because Cabinet position is a position of trust and confidence of the president as the appointing authority. Iiwan ko po yan kay (I will leave that to) Apo BBM in the event na ma-elect siya magdecide kung bibigyan niya ko ng Cabinet position (that he will be elected and decide whether or not he will give me a Cabinet position)."
Duterte and Marcos comprise the so-called UniTeam.
The lady mayor also serves as Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) chairperson.
