An off-duty policeman who chanced upon a robbery incident arrested the suspect who tried to victimize an Indian national in Las Pinas City on Wednesday, April 20.
The suspect was identified as Joefer Suan, 36, of Caloocan City. He is now detained at the Las Pinas police custodial facility and is facing charges of robbery-holdup.
According to Las Pinas police chief Col. Jaime Santos, the incident happened around 12:15 p.m. in TS Cruz Subdivision, Daang Hari Road, Barangay Almanza Dos, Las Pinas City.
Santos said Cpl. Arnaiz Orongan, assigned at Barbosa Station 14, Mendiola Police Community Precinct of the Manila Police District (MPD), was walking when he noticed an altercation between the suspect and the victim.
The city police chief said Orongan, sensing a robbery incident, immediately responded and asked assistance from the Las Pinas City police Daang-Hari Sub-Station.
Suan yielded a .38 caliber revolver with four live ammunitions and P3,000 cash when he was arrested.
Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg commended Orongan for responding immediately to the incident leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Macaraeg said the act showed by Orongan must be followed by all policemen in rendering 24/7 service to the public to maintain peace and order.
