Police say 'around 300,000' attended UniTeam's Cebu City rally on Monday

CEBU CITY – The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) provided a final estimate of “around 300,000” for the number of people who attended the grand rally of UniTeam presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte at the Filinvest Field at the South Road Properties here on Monday, April 18, 2022.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, CCPO said “there were around 300,000 estimated supporters who gathered” for the rally, which started at 12 noon and lasted with the end of a mini-concert at midnight.

CCPO said the crowd included the 120,000 which watched the event inside the premises of the rally area, and about 100,000 more who watched the event from outside the venue through LCD monitors.

“The grand rally reached around 300,000 to include those who attended earlier at 12 noon and left afterwards,” the statement said.

The CCPO statement was issued on authority of CCPO Director Col. Ernesto Salvador through Information Officer Lt. Col. Wilbert Perilla.

It also said the crowd estimate was supported by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) of Cebu City.

The statement also said a total of 468 Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel was deployed at the rally area, with other force multipliers and other agencies that provided internal security. In all, there were 1,226 who provided security for the rally.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia supported the CCPO’s crowd estimate, explaining that it was within the capacity of the rally venue to accommodate a crowd of 300,000.

“This is a 30-hectrare lot, and it was filled to the brim. Even if you were to give one square meter for every person, you do the math. One hectare is 10,000, this is 30 hectares. So, in other words, this is 300,000, at least, if we were to give an allowance of one square meter per person,” Garcia said at the rally.
