The police identified the victims as Alejandre Brotarlo, 28, of Roxas, Capiz, and Queenie Rocaberte, 23, of Barangay 5, Victorias City.

Lt. Col. Joseph Fajardo Jr., Victorias City police chief, said Brotarlo and Rocaberte were on their way to Victorias City to visit the latter’s family, when they figured in the accident.

Fajardo said that Brotarlo was allegedly speeding when he lost control of his vehicle, as a result of which his vehicle entered the opposite lane and figured on a head-on collision with the truck.

Fajardo said it took the rescuers a few minutes to remove the victims from the damaged car.

The couple was declared dead on arrival at a hospital due to head injuries, the police chief added.

Fajardo said that truck driver Juanito Panes Jr., 43, of Kabankalan City will be released from police custody, pending the initial settlement between the victims' families and the truck owner.
