Campaign season is all about gaining endorsements, and Angat Pinoy Party-list just secured a major one--that of vice presidential survey frontrunner, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte's.
"Mayor Durerte has endorsed Angat Pinoy Party-list, which entered among the top 40 groups in the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey," a statement from the party-list said Sunday, April 17.
"Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte believes multi-sectoral party-list Angat Pinoy espouses the same goals as UniTeam’s to enhance the welfare of Filipinos, particularly the women sector; micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), OFWs (overseas Filipino workers), and person-with-disability (PWD)," the statement read.
Mayor Duterte's camp confirmed its endorsement of the newly-formed party-list, which is headed by its chairman emeritus, Anthony del Rosario.
Del Rosario is the spokesman of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) and a former Davao del Norte governor. The lady mayor of a regional head of HNP, a position she holds along with the chairmanship of national party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).
Del Rosario, said they want to thank the presidential daughter "for endorsing and believing in what Angat Pinoy can bring to the table in line with UniTeam’s socio-economic platform".
“The name that we carry, Angat Pinoy, is very timely especially because over the last two years of pandemic, maraming Pilipino ang nahirapan na gusto naming i-angat muli ang mga buhay (a lot of Filipinos were burdened and thus we want to uplift their lives once again),” he added.
Angat Pinoy said it will focus on six sectors: MSMEs, women groups, senior citizens, PWDs, youth, and OFWs.
“Angat Party aims to introduce sustainable programs and laws that will focus on helping MSMEs survive under the new normal; women groups’ welfare, especially single parents; and , particularly those who lost their overseas jobs and returned home to seek for employment,” Del Rosario explained.
He said if given a seat in the Lower House, Angat Pinoy will file pieces of legislation that will help alleviate the lives of people from these sectors.
As for the SWS survey result referred to by the party-list, it reportedly said that Filipinos would vote for Angat Pinoy due to their credible advocacy and programs that they perceive will best serve their specific socio-economic needs".
At least 165 party-list groups will be vying for an estimated 63 seats in the House of Representatives in the May 9 polls, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Winning party-lists can have a maximum of three seats in the House, depending on the number of votes they garnered.
