CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The observance of Holy Week in the entire Northern Mindanao was ‘generally peaceful.’
Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, spokesperson of PRO-10, made the statement, stressing that they have not recorded any incident that would affect the commemoration, specially the church activities.
Olaivar added that there was also no major incident recorded in the different pilgrimage sites in the region.
Days before the annual weeklong religious undertaking, the different city and provincial police offices in the region were instructed to coordinate with the local government units (LGUs) in relation to the security plan for this year's observance of Holy Week.
Olaivar said that Brig. Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. would like to thank the different force multipliers and volunteers who helped the police force in implementing the guidelines and protocols, considering the threat of Covid-19 cannot be taken for granted.
"We hope that we will continue to be vigilant in our environment. Report immediately to us what you think is vital or may affect the maintenance of peace and order and security of the region," said Olaivar in an interview with Manila Bulletin on Monday.
The PRO-10 has not lowered its guard as it kept its strict implementation of police operations even during Holy Week.
In Misamis Oriental, a total of 64 individuals were arrested during the police relentless campaign against all forms of criminality from April 11 to 17.
According to the statement released by the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office (MORPPO) on Monday, the operatives nabbed 19 wanted persons, 34 in illegal gambling, seven in illegal drugs, three from search warrant and one had been arrested for illegal possession of firearms.
Olaivar also asked the public's full cooperation to also achieve a generally peaceful national and local elections 20222 on May 9.
"Let's continue in helping one another. The election is near. We need to ensure a safe and secure election. You can trust your police that we will do our best to protect you," she said.
On April 7 at the regional headquarters in Camp 1Lt Vicente G Alagar, Lapasan village in this city, the PRO-10 conducted the ceremonial turnover of over 600 police personnel to the different areas in Northern Mindanao region to secure the peaceful elections.
