The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said on Sunday, April 17, that there were over 1,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) that have been infected with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in the male dormitory of the Manila City Jail.

In a report from DZBB Super Radyo, BJMP National Capital Region (NCR) spokesperson Midzfar Omar said the infected inmates are now being isolated in their respective facilities.
Omar also added that there are 206 PDLs who are still waiting for the results of their confirmatory test or "GeneXpert."
Since Covid-19 cases were decreasing, the BJMP noticed that the TB cases are now gradually increasing in the summer season.
As of today, there are about 5,000 PDLs in the male dormitory of the Manila City Jail.
