Platinum Karaoke downed Vietnam, 15-8, Sunday, April 17 to settle for a third place finish in the ASEAN Basketball League 3x3 International Champions Cup in Bali, Indonesia.
The team of Juan Gomez de Liano, Chris de Chavez and imports Marcus Hammonds and Carlos Martinez atoned for the semifinal defeat to host Indonesia Team A and win the consolation match for a spot in the podium of the two-day competition.
Gomez de Liano, De Chavez, Hammonds and Martinez swept the pool play with lopsided wins over Indonesian club Bali United (21-4) and Cambodian side Khmer Stars (21-2).
Platinum then had to survive Indian side Ahmedabad 3BL (19-17) in the quarters before bowing to the host nation in the final four.
Meanwhile, the Zamboanga Valientes, the country’s other representative in the men’s side, were eliminated by Vietnam, 21-12, in the quarters.
Jojo Cunanan, RJ Arga, Jeff Bernardo and David Sebastian dropped their first two outings to Indonesia Team A (21-12) and Thailand’s SniperX (21-8) but salvaged a quarterfinals berth after a hard-fought win over Bali United (18-17).
Uratex Dream, on the other hand, saw its campaign end with one win and two defeats in the women’s division.
Kay Pingol, Tina Deacon, Sam Harada and Eunique Chan won their opening assignment against Singapore (18-15) before losing to Vietnam (18-15) and Indonesia’s Louvre Angels (22-13).
