To help the survivors recover in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Agaton, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) made an emergency appeal for cash donations.

PRC has been conducting disaster response operations in Leyte, Capiz and Iloilo.

Meanwhile, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard “Dick” J. Gordon assured Filipinos that the PRC will continue to “Agaton” survivors in the long term until they can recover.

“The Red Cross will be here for the long haul, as usual,” Gordon said.

PRC assisted 67 individuals to evacuate and rescued another 99.

It continues to assist the government in the search and retrieval operations in landslide sites.

As of Saturday, April 16, a PRC water tanker has distributed 59,000 liters of water.

Volunteers and staff have also provided hygiene promotion education for 808 persons and hand sanitizers to 97 persons.

PRC volunteers have also served hot meals to 10,758 individuals.

They have given ready-to-eat meals to 100 individuals and bottled water to 197 persons.

Likewise, trained staff and volunteers have facilitated psychosocial first aid (PFA) for 473 adults and child-friendly activities designed as PFA for 94 children.

The PRC has six welfare desks in typhoon Agaton-affected areas.

PRC said that ambulance teams were also deployed in the areas and served 736 individuals who had their blood pressure taken, provided emergency medical treatment to 13 persons, and transported one patient.

The first aid volunteers treated seven individuals.

“The Red Cross is doing its very best, alongside the government, to provide relief,” Gordon said.
