Duterte assures typhoon victims houses will be built for them even beyond his term
President Duterte has promised typhoon victims in Baybay City, Leyte that they will be provided houses either under his term or his successor's.

"There are housing units. I would be able to build more houses for you if only I had more time left. But if there’s not enough time, if I’m about to step down, then we will just estimate how many we can build. We just need to find lands," Duterte said when he spoke with victims at the Baybay City Senior High School in Leyte on Friday, April 15.
Leyte was heavily hit by typhoon Agaton, claiming lives due to landslides and flooding triggered by the typhoon.
On Friday, Duterte visited the island province to personally assess the impacts of the typhoon.
He conducted an aerial inspection in areas heavily hit by typhoon Agaton in Baybay City before presiding over a briefing with officials from various government agencies and local government units to assess the damages of the onslaught of the typhoon.

Duterte admitted that he has no much time left to help the typhoon victims as he will step down from office in two months.
But he said the next administration—whoever replaces him—will help them.
"There’s only two months left of my Presidency, so I won’t be able to do much to help you. But what I can assure you is that I will help make sure that preparations will be in place to help give you new houses," Duterte said in vernacular.
"But that’s a program of the government and I’m sure that whoever replaces --- the person will push through with the program because there’s nothing else that they can do," he added.
Duterte also admitted that it will be a long shot but went to assure the victims that help will come, including free meals.
"If there are flatlands here that’s not too near the coastline but the owner refuses to share, then the government will take that property and pay the owner. And that’s a long process, actually," Duterte said.
The President also visited the Malasakit Center at the Western Leyte Provincial Hospital (WLPH) in Baybay City. He was with Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go.
