Amy Austria on how she conquered her addiction to drugs

Amy Austria has come out to reveal how she overcame several years of her relying on illegal drugs simply to get by.

In a vlog, the actress shared how she did not via forced rehabilitation but simply by praying in earnest.

It happened, she said, while she was on a spiritual retreat.

“Isinurender ko ang buhay ko kay Lord. Nag-one-on-one kami,” she said.

Amy went on to relate how she prayed.

“Lord, alam Mo naman lahat ng mga kasalanan ko, e. Pero itong pinakagrabe, itong drugs, itong shabu.

“Please lang, tanggalin Mo ito. Alisin Mo na ito. Alam Mo na for so many years, halos anim na taon ‘yon, I’ve been trying na maalis ito."

At that point, she was so dependent on it she even brought some to the retreat itself.

“Tingnan mo, eto may dala ako dito. Di ba ang kapal ng mukha ko? Retreat ito tapos nagdala ako ng drugs dito? Di ba ang sama ko?”

Amy recalled how she started using drugs upon entering showbiz, relating how it energized her, allowing her to do a lot of work.

She only started using drugs heavily after losing a loved one.

Note, her partner at the time, actor Jay Ilagan, died in a motorcycle accident.

“I’m still in mourning, namatayan ako ng mahal sa buhay. Single mother ako, wala akong trabaho, wala akong pera."

The drugs, she said, helped her cope.

“Kasi kapag natulog ako nang natulog, papaano ako makapagtrabaho? Kapag kumain ako nang kumain, tataba ako. Sino pa ang kukuha sa akin?'”

When she went home after the retreat, it was like magic.

She was able to get rid of the drugs easily.

“Umuwi ako sa bahay, natulog nang mahimbing, gumising ng maaga, kumain, nagbanyo. Naging normal ang lahat, walang withdrawal. Hallelujah!”
