Family of seven trapped by waist-deep flood inside their home pleading for help in Capiz

ILOILO CITY -- A family trapped inside their home since Monday night in Dumarao town, Capiz province is pleading to be rescued from floodwaters caused by the continuous rains from tropical depression Agaton.

Mae Diane Diocena took to Facebook on Tuesday, April 12, asking help from anyone to rescue members of her family at their residence in Ongol Ilawod village.

“Good morning. Bisan ang 3 ka señor kag isa ka 6-month-old baby kag 2 ka bata na lang ang unahon rescue (Good morning. Even just prioritize rescuing the three senior citizens, a 6-month-old baby and two other children),” Diocena pleaded.

Based on the photos posted, the six-month-old baby is placed inside a plastic laundry basin so it would float and the baby would be safe. The others are sitting atop a sack of rice, chairs and the bed as floodwaters reach knee-level.

“Kagab-i pa mu ni amon situation (Our situation has been like this since last night),” Diocena said.

Diocena even pointed out that one of her lolas (grandmother) needed oxygen.

The family could not go out as the floodwaters outside were deep and rains were intermittent.

Based on the initial data released by the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Capiz PDRRMO), 16 towns are affected by the flood.
