Two ranking officials of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) were arrested in a follow-up operation by joint police and military intelligence operatives in Pasay City.
Nabbed were Ernesto Lorenzo and Rosita Celino-Serrano, both are reportedly officials of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee.
"They are subjects of an arrest warrant issued by a local court for cases of kidnapping and murder," said Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Lorenzo is the subject of a Warrant of Arrest as an accused in a case for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention, and Attempted Murder.
Meanwhile, Celino-Serrano is the Regional Education and Propaganda Bureau Staff – STRPC and the Secretary of Islam Mindoro. She has a pending Warrant of Arrest for the crime of Murder.
The intelligence community has been on the hot trail on the two, until they were chanced upon at the Nayong Pilipino in Pasay City on Monday morning, April 11, according to Carlos.
“This a significant step in curbing insurgency and lawlessness in the country. The accused will be given their day on court,” Carlos said.
