A member of K-pop boy band Astro announced that he is enlisting in the Korean military to fulfill his duty as a citizen.
MJ, 28, the oldest member of Astro, will be enlisting in the military on May 9, the first member of the group to do so.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Arohas who always send unsparing love to Astro, and would like to inform you about our artist MJ's military enlistment,” said Fantagio, Astro’s agency.
MJ will be enlisting as an active duty soldier and will be part of the military band.
“After receiving basic military training at the training center on May 9, MJ is scheduled to perform his military duty in the military band,” the agency said.
It added, “To prevent the spread of Covid-19 on the day of enlistment, the location and time of MJ's enlistment will be kept private, and he will be enlisted without a separate event so we ask for your generous understanding.”

MJ was born in 1994. Under the rules, all qualified Korean men should enlist in the military by age 28. He will serve for 18 months.
He also announced his military enlistment during Astro’s fan meeting “Aroha Festival Gate 6” on April 9.
Besides MJ, Astro’s other members are Cha Eun-woo, Jinjin, Moon Bin, Rocky and Sanha.
