The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said the lone fatality was reported in Region 11 (Davao) but it was still being validated by the local DRRM units.

According to reports from the municipal DRRM office of Cateel, Davao Oriental, an 83-year-old man drowned in Barangay Alegria due to the flashfloods triggered by heavy rains last Wednesday.

Another individual was reported missing in Davao de Oro after getting swept by floodwaters while Elesa Sawit, 98, and Abelita Lorando, 53, both residents of Brgy. Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon, suffered from injuries due to a reported landslide.

A total of 38,399 families or 45,588 individuals were affected by the heavy rains and deep floods brought by Agaton in Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Davao Region, Caraga (Region 13), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Of these, 3,228 families or 11,264 individuals were temporarily staying in 52 evacuation centers.

“We have issued the necessary preparations for the expected effects of typhoon Agaton. The LGUs are assisting the affected residents and evacuation is ongoing in Regions 10, 11, Caraga and BARMM,” said NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal.

“Right now, the LGUs are using their relief supply to assist those who are in the evacuation centers,” he added.
