LPA to continue to bring rains over VisMin, parts of Luzon; intensification into tropical cyclone not ruled out

The low pressure area (LPA), embedded within the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), is expected to continue to bring light to heavy rains over most of Visayas and Mindanao and parts of Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 a.m. bulletin on Friday, April 8.

PAGASA said the LPA’s intensification into a tropical depression is not ruled out at this time.

The weather disturbance was estimated at 375 kilometers east of Surigao City as of 10 a.m., and will bring moderate to heavy rains over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, the northern portion of Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains will be experienced over the southern portion of Quezon, Romblon, Marinduque, and the rest of Bicol region, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

Meanwhile, the tropical depression at 2,270 kilometers east of Mindanao remained outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as of 3 a.m.

PAGASA said the tropical depression may enter the PAR by Monday, April 11.

Based on latest analysis, the tropical depression will not have a direct effect on the country, but PAGASA still advised the public to monitor its updates for possible change in scenario.

Moreover, the northeasterly surface wind flow may bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Aurora.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may also prevail over Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
