The Department of Education (DepEd) has ordered the recall and removal from the portal of the module which made references to Vice President Leni Robredo after netizens called the attention of the agency to address the matter.

DepEd, in a statement issued Friday, April 8, confirmed that the module which has gone viral for allegedly putting Robredo in a bad light was from the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Manila.
The Self-Learning Module (SLM) entitled “Quarter 1 – Module 2.2: Methods of Philosophizing Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person,” drew flak for citing Robredo as an example in the activity.

In a statement issued dated April 7, the SDO-Manila said that the SLM was recalled to “ease the aggravating circumstances—directly or not— brought about” by this part of the module.
“With utmost consideration that we are currently within the election period, and as part of our immediate action taken, this Office already directed school heads to retrieve copies of the said module (hard copy) from their learners’ possession while the in-charge of the Learning Resource Management was instructed to remove such (soft copy) from the online portal,” DepEd SDO-Manila said.

Furthermore, DepEd SDO-Manila said that the unit and persons involved in the said module are “now under thorough review and retooling.”
DepEd SDO-Manila said that it has immediately identified the writer to explain the “motivation regarding the cited text.” However, the writer “already passed away due to Covid-19, same year of the publication date.”
Following this incident, SDO-Manila said that during the review and revision process, “we will employ more quality control and assurance processes, with teams focusing both on content and style, so that this occurrence will not surface in the future.”
The SDO said that the conduct of certain individuals, units, or groups, that may be found prejudicial to the best interest of the service “will not be taken lightly and shall be subjected to thorough review and policy recommendation consistent with DepEd rules and regulations.”
DepEd SDO-Manila also apologized for “any harm or inconvenience” that the said module may have caused individuals or groups.
“This is definitely not the intent or the very purpose of the publication of such material,” DepEd said.
The SDO-Manila also assured the general public, stakeholders, most especially parents and learners that “as we strive to provide better resources and avenues for learning, your child’s right to quality education shall be our top priority.”
Since the said module did not undergo regional conformance review, the SDO-Manila also apologized to DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma, then Regional Director of DepEd-National Capital Region (NCR), and the rest of the NCR Team mentioned as part of the management team as stated in the copyright section of the published material.

Despite this, DepEd SDO-Manila assured that it will “continue to remain focused on our mission to deliver quality public service.”
