Farmers express support for Leni-Kiko, urge supporters to ‘push back’ against red-tagging

Farmers’ group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), on Thursday, April 7, expressed their support for Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan amid the constant red-tagging against the tandem and the volunteers of Leni-Kiko people’s campaign.

In a press statement, KMP stood their ground, saying that the red-tagging that Robredo and her supporters have been receiving are “meant to dampen” the people’s campaign.

“Red-tagging is the handiwork of those who want to discredit and dampen the determined efforts of broad sectors campaigning for Leni-Kiko and patriotic change in the coming May national elections,” said KMP Chairperson Danilo Ramos.

Ramos likewise claimed that the Duterte-Marcos camp are “spreading lies” and are doing everything to harm Rodredo’s chance of winning the presidential race.

KMP, on the other hand, stated that they understand how being red-tagged feels as the peasant group themselves have been subjected to red-tagging, too.

“We enjoin all sectors and organizations supporting Leni-Kiko to push back against red-tagging. Likewise we must double our efforts to amplify people’s issues and demands in the final weeks of the electoral campaign,” said KMP.

Meanwhile, Robredo said that she believes that these baseless accusations aim to “stop the momentum” of Leni-Kiko people’s campaign.

“Tandaan natin nagsimula ito noong naging sunod-sunod ang pagdagsa ng mga tao sa ating mga People’s rally na para bang hindi makapaniwala ang iba na pwedeng magkaisa ang karaniwang Pilipino sa ngalan ng pag-asa (Let us remember that it started when there became a steady influx of supporters at our People’s rally as if they could not believe that Filipinos could unite in the name of hope),” said Robredo.
