British national facing two counts of alleged child abuse nabbed in Puerto Princesa City


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro -- Police arrested on Wednesday evening a 78-year old British national who is facing charges of alleged violation of law on child abuse in Palawan.

Brig. Gen. Sidney S. Hernia, regional director of Police Regional Office-MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) identified the suspect as Derek John Ambridge, who is included in the list of most-wanted persons in Puerto Princesa City.

Brig. Gen. Hernia said Ambridge was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 47 in Puerto Princesa City for two counts of violation of Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act with a recommended bail amounting to P200,000 each.

Joint elements of Police Station 1, together with operatives from PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Palawan Provincial Field Unit arrested the British in his residence in Barangay Santa Monica of the said city, Hernia said.

The arrested accused is under the custody of the Police Station 1 of Puerto Princesa City Police Office and will be turned over to the court.
