Cayetano's survey numbers prove that an 'eco-friendly' campaign can work

Whoever said that a poster-less, motorcade-less campaign can't produce great results?

Despite running on this "eco-friendly" campaign, former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano maintained his high ranking in the latest Pulse Asia survey results on voters' senatorial preferences ahead of the May 9 polls.

Released on Wednesday, April 6, the March 2022 survey results showed Cayetano ranking second to fifth among all senatorial candidates.

The survey showed the incumbent Taguig-Pateros 1st congressman getting 56.4 percent of votes from participants, which is a 1.4-percentage points increase from Pulse Asia’s February 2022 survey.

The former Speaker also has an awareness of 99 percent among voters despite having no posters or tarpaulins and not mounting motorcades.

“When we mounted our eco-friendly, lead-by-example campaign in February, we knew we would face major challenges. In the sea of flyers and posters, our name would not be seen among the candidates in every corner of the country,” Cayetano said.

Despite this, Cayetano said he still decided to continue this new eco-friendly style of campaigning because he did not want to add to the election-related waste that is generated every three years.

He also wants to be mindful about conserving fuel, which is currently exorbitantly priced due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

“I think the survey results have been consistent in showing that the people appreciate and support our commitment to our cause. Hindi kasi ito pulitika, ito ay paraan para mapangalagaan ang ating kalikasan na malapit sa puso ng mga Pilipino (This isn't politics, it is a way to protect our environment, which is close to Filipinos' hearts),” he said.

Cayetano thanked his supporters for helping him in his campaign, particularly in volunteering to launch bike caravans and coastal clean-ups that further pushed his pro-environment advocacy.

According to Pulse Asia, the survey fieldwork was conducted from March 17 to 21, 2022 using face-to-face interviews.

The nationwide survey was based on a sample of 2,400 representative adults aged 18 years old and above. It has a ± 2 percent margin of error, the survey firm added.###
