MEXICO, Pampanga--Having lofty survey numbers doesn't make the UniTeam tandem of Bongbong Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte confident.
Instead, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential bet Duterte claimed that UniTeam is "running scared" with just roughly a month to go before the May 9 elections.
"Wala po yan dahil (That's nothing because) we are always running scared," Duterte told reporters in an ambush interview following a UniTeam event here with former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
She was asked if the UniTeam tandem was confident of victory next month given their status as consistent survey frontrunners.
"Yan dapat ang mindset namin (running scared) dahil walang kasiguraduhan ang pagkapanalo until ma-proclaim ka po (That should be our mindset because there's no assurance of a victory until you are proclaimed)," the lady mayor underscored.
The UniTeam duo is composed of Duterte and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Marcos.
Pulse Asia’s February 18 to 23 survey results showed that Filipinos' voter preference for Duterte was at 53 percent, while that of Marcos's was at 60 percent. If they maintain these figures, they can potentially achieve historic "majority" victories in the polls.
Duterte said that UniTeam will carry on with its various campaign activities in the country.
"Patuloy pa rin kami na gumagawa ng mga iba’t-ibang activities para sa iba’t-ibang lugar sa Pilipinas para makausap natin yung ating mga kababayan at makapangampanya sa kanila. Tuloy-tuloy ang paghahanda natin para sa araw ng eleksyon at sa bilangan ng boto (We continue to do different activities in different places in the Philippines in order to speak to our countrymen and campaign to them. Our preparations for election day and the counting of votes are continuous)," she said.
