The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Monday, April 4, that it has mandated employers to provide double pay for workers who will render services on the declared regular holidays this month.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that workers who will report to work on regular holidays, April 9, 14, and 15, are entitled to receive twice their daily wages, as stated under Labor Advisory No. 8.

Bello explained that employees who did not work on regular holidays (April 9, 14, and 15) will still receive 100 percent of their salary, while those who rendered their services on the said dates will receive 200 percent of their regular salary.

"They should be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate for working overtime. Moreover, employees working on a regular holiday and days off should receive another 30 percent of their hourly rate of 200 percent and an additional 30 percent if they work overtime," said Bello.

On April 16, a special non-working day, Bello said that the “no work, no pay” principle should apply.

Employees rendering service during a special day should receive an additional 30 percent of their basic wage during the first eight work hours. For overtime work, employees should receive an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate.

On the other hand, workers rendering services on their day off, which is a special day, should receive an additional 50 percent on their basic wage for the first eight hours of their work. An additional 30 percent will be added if they work overtime, the DOLE said.
