In a statement, the Philippines through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), criticized the reported missile launch as it "undermines peace and stability" in the Korean Peninsula, neighboring countries, and the world.

"The Philippines condemns the DPRK's (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)on 24 March 2022," the Philippines said.

"Such reckless and provocative action undermines peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, the entire region, and the world," it added.

North Korea confirmed the launch of a Hwasong-17 missile last March 24. It was reported that the missile is the country's newest known ICBM variant.

It was North Korea's first long-range test since 2017.

The Philippines also reiterated its call for North Korea to comply with its international obligation and commit to peaceful dialogues.

"We reiterate our call on the DPRK to comply with its international obligation under relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and commit to the process of constructive and peaceful dialogue," it stated.
