NPA amazon killed in Aklan

ILOILO CITY -- A femalae New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in a clash with the Philippine Army in Aklan province on Friday afternoon.

The lady NPA rebel was the lone casualty in a 15-minute clash between troops under the 12th Infantry Battalion (12 IB) and the NPA in Libacao town that afternoon.

Captain Kim Apitong, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), clarified that the lady rebel is still unidentified.

“She is not Geralyn Gilbaliga. We are still trying to identify her identity,” added Apitong in a statement released Sunday, April 3.

Found near the dead NPA rebel were a shotgun, 5.56 ammunition, a backpack, personal belongings, and NPA paraphernalia.

The lady rebel was one of the three NPA rebels killed in two separate clashes in Western Visayas region during the same day.

The other two killed were a husband and wife in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental province. They were identified as Elbert Nicolas Quillanos and his wife Jessa Luiso Quillano.

The 3ID hierarchy lauded the government troops while reassuring that the army will not stop going after communist rebels.

“We will continue to hunt the remaining terrorist group,” said Major General Benedict Arevalo, 3ID commanding general.
