New sea route boosts Panay-Negros connectivity

ILOILO CITY -- The Western Visayas Regional Development Council (Western Visayas RDC) under the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-6) is seeing a boost in connectivity following the opening of a new sea route between the islands of Panay and Negros.

F.F. Cruz Shipping Corp. launched a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) route from Ajuy town, Iloilo province to E.B. Magalona town, Negros Occidental province and vice versa.

“This new transport link can be maximized for everyone’s benefit. We call for further collaboration through a whole-of-government approach. We have to assist our private stakeholders to connect more island communities, increase the mobility of the population, and enhance local trade and tourism,” said Marlon Jinon, NEDA-6’s chief economic development specialist.

The new Panaya-Negros route affords traveler faster and safer way, with the travel timein the Visayan Sea lasting only for an hour and 20 minutes.

It is also seen as an economical route, especially for logistics companies and local tourists.

On its part, the Western Visayas RDC is backing the complimentary development for this new transportation development.

The Western Visayas RDC passed a resolution that endorsed both the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the proposed Ajuy Industrial Road.
