Sandiganbayan junks graft charges vs late TESDA Chief Augusto L. Syjuco Jr.

With his death last January, the criminal charges filed against former Iloilo 2nd District Representative and then Director General Augusto L. Syjuco Jr. have been dismissed by the Sandiganbayan.
"Wherefore, pursuant to Article 89 of the Revised Penal Code, the cases against accused Augusto Limcaco Syjuco Jr. are ordered dismissed, without prejudice to the filing of a separate civil action against his estate, should the circumstances warrant," the Sandiganbayan said in a resolution.
Syjuco's cash bond of P90,000 and travel bond of P180,000 have been ordered released to his wife, Judy J. Syjuco, also former Iloilo 2nd District lawmaker.
Syjuco's lawyer, Angel H. Gatmaitan, filed a motion to dismiss as he submitted the certificate of death which indicated that the former TESDA director general passed away on Jan. 10, 2020 while seeking treatment in Singapore.
Syjuco's wife, Judy, was convicted by the anti-graft court in November 2021 due to the misuse of her P20 million priority development assistance fund (PDAF) in 2006.
Syjuco was included in two counts of graft cases.
