Hallyu stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin will be tying the knot today, March 31, in the wedding of the year in South Korea.
The two stars of the hit drama “Crash Landing on You” will get married at 4 p.m. at the Aston House of the Grand Walkerhill Seoul hotel. Aston House is a separate venue of the hotel that has hosted exclusive events, weddings and parties.
Hyun Bin, 39, and Son Ye-jin, who turned 40 last Jan. 11, will be getting married one year and three months after officially admitting they were a couple on Jan. 1, 2021. They fell in love after starring in “Crash Landing on You,” which aired from December 2019 to February 2020.
Ahead of the wedding, Son Ye-jin’s agency, MS Team Entertainment, announced on March 28 that it cannot receive wedding gifts for the actress.
“First of all, I would like to thank the fans for their interest and support to Son Ye-jin. However, we decided not to receive some items due to corruption and damage issues regarding wedding gifts for Son Ye-jin,” it said.
It added, “Please support Son Ye-jin only with your heart and message only. We ask for your active understanding and cooperation.”
The agency said prohibited items for gifts are food like cake, bread and fruit; flowers and wreaths; and expensive items.
Expected to attend the wedding are close friends of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin.
One of those who received a wedding invitation is former soccer player Lee Dong-guk. Last March 16, his wife, Lee Soo-jin, posted on Instagram that he received an invitation to the wedding. The post showed Lee Dong-guk holding the wedding invitation.
Korean actresses Lee Min-jung, Gong Hyo-jin, Uhm Ji-won and Oh Yoon-ah, who are Son Ye-jin’s close friends, are expected to be at the wedding.
Korean media reported on March 21 that actor Jang Dong-gun will deliver a congratulatory speech for the couple at their wedding.
Their love story
Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin starred in the film “The Negotiation,” which was released in South Korea in September 2018.
After they starred in the film, rumors circulated that they were dating.
On Jan. 1, 2021, Korean media outlet Dispatch published an exclusive story and photos of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin together. The report stated that the two played golf in Gangwon province when they had the time.
On the same day, the two stars admitted they were a couple, saying their romantic relationship flourished after “Crash Landing on You.”
MS Team Entertainment said Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin “have built a close relationship through work activities, and after the drama ended, they became interested in each other and developed into a romantic relationship.”
Hyun Bin’s agency, VAST Entertainment, also revealed their relationship, saying, “Actors Hyun Bin and Son Yejin met through work and after the drama ended, they developed into lovers with good feelings for each other.”
On Instagram, Son Ye-jin wrote, “I’m thankful for being able to meet a good person and I will try to take care of it (relationship). Why do I feel so embarrassed to appear before you with my personal story rather than work for the first time. Hmm...um...uh… Yes it is. Haha. Um… I don’t know what to say but I think I have to say something to you. It’s too awkward and weird. The love and support you give me, I always keep it in my heart.. I hope there are more good things in the new year. Be healthy.”
Last Feb. 10, Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin announced that they were getting married in March.
“I thought long and hard about how to share this story because it’s an important one. I found someone to spend the rest of my life with. Yes… it’s him. Boy meets girl, recognizes each other in the crowd, promises to build a future together…I couldn’t imagine! It happened so naturally…But, isn’t that destiny?” Son Ye-jin said.
She added, “Just being with him, I feel warm and protected. Please help us celebrate the beginning of our future. And to my dearest fans, I have received unconditional love and for a long time now, I thought, there’s no way to repay it. Please know that I’m infinitely grateful and I also wish you all happiness!”
Hyun Bin announced, “I am writing this because I wanted to tell the fans, who cared about me and gave me great interest and love despite my lacking in many ways, first the most important decision of my life.”
“I’m sure some of you can guess, right? Yes, I have made an important decision of marriage and step carefully in the second act of my life. I made a promise with her who always makes me smile. Let us walk through the days that lie ahead together,” he added.
The actor said, “Jeong-hyeok and Seri, who worked together in the drama, are going to take that step together. With the warm and affectionate gaze you have shown us so far, I believe you will cheer us on happily for our first step.
Their agencies also announced the wedding.
“We would like to inform you about the wedding announcement of actress Son Ye-jin, which was released today. The two, who have met with warm support and interest from many people, will hold the wedding in March in Seoul. As it is a difficult time for everyone due to the pandemic, according to the wishes of the two actors, they have decided to hold the event privately with parents and acquaintances from both families. We ask for your generous understanding of this,” said MS Team Entertainment.
The agency added, “We hope that you will send blessings and support to the future of the two who will be together in a special and precious beginning of their lives, and actress Son Ye-jin will do her best to show you a better image to repay your love for her.”
During the press conference for the drama “Thirty-Nine” on Feb. 16, Son Ye-jin talked about her upcoming wedding.
"I hope mine will be like that too. Thank you. Thank you, everyone. So many people congratulated me. I feel really thankful. I can't thank everybody enough for it," she said.
Son Ye-jin likened her upcoming marriage to Hyun Bin as destiny.
"Such a big event has occurred in the beginning of the year that I almost feel like it's destiny," said Son Ye-jin.
