Instead of the festive activities that attract huge crowds, this year’s Araw ng Binangonan (Day of Binangonan) will be observed with simple ceremonies.
The office of Mayor Cesar Ynares told Manila Bulletin that the observance of the town’s 122nd foundation day on Tuesday, March 29, will start with a Holy Mass to be attended by officials and employees of the municipal government at Saint Ursula Parish Church.
After the mass, the local government officials and employees will attend a short program highlighting the history of the town at the town auditorium fronting the town building.
Local candidates will be given their time to briefly lay their platforms of government before the residents during the event.
Prior to the pandemic, festive activities such as cultural presentations and street dancing, marked the anniversary of the town’s founding with the holding of the so-called "Binalayan" Festival, coined from the contraction of the words Binangonan, lawa (lake) and kawayan (bamboo).
The town became an independent municipality under General Order No. 40 on March 29, 1900 during the American regime.
