TACLOBAN CITY – Thousands of supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo braved the heavy afternoon rain to support her presidential bid at the Rayhak Leni-Kiko People’s Rally in Northern Samar on Monday, March 28, 2022.
The crowd, coming from the different towns of the province, trooped to the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) in what the Provincial Police Office (PPO) estimated to be 73,000-strong.
Apart from the 2.5-hectare UEP grandstand oval, Robredo’s supporters also filled the side lanes as well as nearby streets, according to the Northern Samar PPO.
Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan introduced Robredo before he was joined by Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone, Northern Samar 1st Dist. Rep. Paul Daza, former congressman Raul Daza, Vice Governor Gary Lavin, and other local officials.
"I hope you join me in my stand to help our visitor because she is the only one I've seen with principles that can help uplift our province," Ongchuan said.
Robredo, who compared the situation in Samar Island to Bicol Region where she hails from,vowed to address issues in electricity and mobile signal, as well as the completion of the circumferential road connecting Las Navas in Northern Samar, Matuguinao, Samar, and Jipapad in Eastern Samar.
"Our decision this May (elections) is not only choosing the candidate we want but deciding the kind of government we want to rule our country in the next 6 years," Robredo stressed.”
