SAN MANUEL, Isabela -- A man who placed a hand grenade on their table while having a drinking spree with three others was arrested by the police in Barangay Eden San Manuel, Isabela.

The San Manuel Police said Romel Velasco, 37, and a construction worker, allegedly uttered in Ilocano dialect the following line: ‘awan sa met pulutan yu,’ (wala naman kayo pulutan), during the drinking session at 11:20 p.m. last Monday.
Shocked by the site of the hand grenade on the table, Velasco’s drinking buddies scampered for safety, and eventually reported the matter to the barangay officials on duty.
The responding PNP personnel together with the barangay officials proceeded to the scene where Velasco placed the grenade.
“Naabutan pa ng mga pulis ang suspect sa lugar at inihagis ang granada patago, mabuti na lang at hindi natanggal ang pin at di sumabog,” Major Sunny M Longboy, chief of police, told Manila Bulletin.
During the investigation, the suspect claimed that he just recovered the hand grenade in parts of Kalinga where sometimes he also works. Police recovered a Mk 2 grenade .
A case for violation of PD 1866 in relation to Omnibus Election Code will be filed against Velasco. Major Longboy commended the responding personnel for the successful conduct of police operations.
