BACOLOD CITY -- A man believed to be mentally ill committed suicide by hanging himself after stabbing his wife in their home in Barangay Banog-Banog, in Isabela town, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

The names of the 32-year-old husband and 28-year-old wife were withheld.
According to Isabela town police chief Capt. Joseph Partidas, the couple was sleeping when the husband suddenly woke up due to some noise outside their house.
Partidas said the husband went outside their house to check the noise, as his wife followed him.
But, the husband allegedly suddenly stabbed his wife for an unknown reason, Partidas said.
Partidas said the wife managed to run away from her husband and was able to seek the help from their neighbors, who later brought her to a hospital, where she is stable now.
A few hours later, the husband was found hanging on a tree a few meters away from their house, Partidas said. Partidas said that according to the couple's family, the husband had a history of mental disorder.
