LAOAG, Ilocos Norte--If there's one thing that Sandro Marcos has learned from his father Bongbong Marcos, it's the meaning of the Filipino saying "Ang pikon, talo (He who is sensitive, loses)."
The younger Marcos gave this answer Friday night, March 25, when asked by this reporter on what he considered the best lesson he's learned from his old man, who is currently the frontrunning presidential candidate in the May 2022 polls.
"I don't think I have to . Kung pikon ka, talo ka,' said Sandro, who is vying for the congressional seat in the first district of this province.
"Are you alluding to the current situation?" this reporter followed up on the 28-year-old, who to his credit, granted three ambush interviews from local and foreign journalists in a span of 45 minutes.
"No, not at all," Sandro insisted.
"I just think generally in life, if you're going for something, you can't...ah no matter how much, how many times people try and get under your skin, it's important to stay above--rise above all of it.
"And I think he's shown that and exemplified that well over the last few weeks," Sandro said referring to his father, who has been routinely criticized by his fellow Palace bets for skipping presidential debates--most of them, at least.
And that's the credo Sandro wants to live by.
"Is that why you always smile?" the aspiring House member was asked again.
"I don't know if that's...I don't know how to answer that, but thank you!" Sandro said.
Sandro led the local candidates who launched their campaign Friday night during a program outside the Provincial Capitol here.
